1877 Carbine, SN76957
1876 Carbine, SN76957
This Model 1877 carbine was made on early 1877. It has all the characteristics of early M77 carbine production.
For example, it has the oval cartouche with a very weak stamping do to sling ring wear, M73 carbine
rear sight mounted with slotless screws which is correct since Springfield did not produce a Type I
carbine M77 sight, keyhole butt plate, large V/P/Eagle/ very small p, front sight blade pin is not
evident, and a dated lock plate and Type II hammer. These early M77 carbines were essentually assembled
from new and early M73 carbine parts since funds for new guns were not available. The bore in this carbine
has strong rifling, but suffers from poor maintenance. A very collectible early M77 carbine!
