M66 U.S. Marked Rifle

M66 U.S. Marked Rifle

This rifle was produced before 1870 and was issued to troops. The fact that it did not get returned in 1870 for the refurbishing for the Franco-Prussian War is quite surprising. The cartouches on the stock are in the same locations as those on an M65 rifle. At the rear of the flat is the ESA in an oval, and in this case toward the front are the initials FWS in a rectangle. There can be three different sets of initials in the forward portion of the stock. In this case we have FWS. SWP and rarely, HSH are found in this location. This rifle is in excellent condition for a US marked M66. behind the trigger plate are the stock inspector's initials and the fancy N firing proof. There is a crack in the stock by the front lock bolt that seems of no consequence. The rifle has a pristine bore!!

$1895 + S/H
