Model 1873 Cadet Rifle Produced in 1876

Model 1873 Cadet Rifle Procued in 1876

This M73 Cadet Rifle was made in late 1876 and the barrel proof marks indicate it. The V/P/eagle/P has a very small last P which is from previous proofs which were much smaller and the last P was the last part of the stamping to be up-graded. It has the ESA cartouche and circled P firing proof way back on the stock. The rifle has an 1873 dated lock with a Type II hammer and a two position tumbler. The stock has not been sanded and the bore is very nice and shiny with good sharp rifling and a few small specks near the muzzle. The rifle has the early block with a spring loaded firing pin. The lower band has a large U and the upper band has the small u. This is correct for the rifle. The rear sight is the M73 and it is retained with slotless screws. The rifle does not have sling swivels so it was intended for military cadets. It is an excellent example of an early M73 cadet rifle.
