M66 U.S. Marked Rifle

M66 U.S. Marked Rifle

This rifle was produced AFTER the Franco-Prussian War shipments to France. See page 323 in the Newsletters where Springfield production is given for new and refurbished M66's starting in the 1870-1872 period. The table shows 580 NEW M66 rifles were made new in the 1870/1872 and issued to the states. They are found missing the script N firing proof and have a strong ESA cartouche and possibly fainter ones from being a musket stock. The flat was not sanded to remove the previous stamps, as was done during the F-P War refurbishing. Most of these post F-P M66's have circled P firing proofs. A ssume the circled P was used on the new and refurbished 3,000 M66's made after 1872. This rifle is in new condition. The rifle has a pristine bore, untouched blacking on the breech parts and color case on the lock.

$1875 + S/H
